Arachidonic Acid (AA)

What is arachidonic acid (AA)?

Arachidonic acid (AA) is a non-essential long-chain polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid, which can be produced in the human body from linoleic acid.

AA Sources

AA is found mainly in animal foods [2].

AA Benefits

It is not clear, if a diet low in AA can decrease symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis [3].

AA is a precursor of substances that are released in inflammation (leukotrienes, prostaglandins). However, dietary AA neither increases nor decreases inflammation [1].
